What is multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication, or MFA, is commonly brought up in cyber security conversations, but what is it?

MFA is system of adding a second means of proving your identity. Your password, something you know, is your first factor. The second factor is most commonly something you have – your phone. It can either be a text message or a code generated by an app.

MFA used to be a cool add-on, but it’s quickly becoming a necessity, with some insurers refusing cyber security coverage if you don’t have it enabled.

For most applications, it’s relatively simple to setup MFA. We recommend enabling it immediately.
